Dr. Lawenda brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role at Advocate Radiation Oncology. Before joining, he served a 13-year career in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Commander. He then held multiple clinical and leadership positions in radiation oncology at large national oncology practices. Today, he leverages more than 20 years of oncology expertise, including the latest radiation techniques, to provide his patients with the best possible care, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and brachytherapy.

While serving as an associate professor at various medical schools, Dr. Lawenda influenced the next generation of physicians and oncologists through mentorship and education. His scholarly output is significant, with over 40 published works that include peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and two influential books, Empowered Against Cancer: Science-Based Strategies To Optimize Your Treatments and Thrive: A Practical Guide and Optimizing Health and Cancer Outcomes with Functional Medicine. These contributions have advanced the field of radiation oncology and evidence-based complementary care.
